When I work with my clients we talk about what their future selves will be like when we have what we want. We dive deep into the thoughts they will be thinking, the foods they will be eating, the ease of prepping, the joy and passion they will feel anything that is true for them.
We dive into how others and the world will see them, the way they stand, sit and the natural smile they have. We don’t just talk about it; they experience it. We let that version of her be her guide.
So today I’m inviting you to have this experience. Grab your journal, and sit down and close your eyes. Think about what you want: more happiness, better health, a new place to live, more connection with other, to lose 20 pounds. Whatever it is is just perfect.
Now open your eyes and in your journal write the words: I want or I desire and just start listing all of your wants and desires. Now close your eyes again and picture that version of you- the you that has what you desire.
How will you dress, carry yourself, interact with others? What will others and the world see? What are you doing with ease that you are struggling to do now? Eating well? Exercising? Making you a priority? Starting your day with a magical morning practice that enlivens you and sparks a passion filled day?
Let your mind go there. What emotions does this future version of you feel regularly? Notice how she carries herself and what lights her up.
It’s all a matter of switching gears, never looking back, and being the person today that you just visioned.
Think every thought, speak every word, and make every decision from her point of view. Walk the way she walks, dress the way she dresses, and spend your free time the way they would spend theirs. Choose the friends they would choose, eat the meals they would eat, choose the movement she would and love and appreciate yourself that way too. Let her be your guide.
After all, that person is who you really are.
